I preordered a bZ4X back in May 2022 because I’ve always trusted Toyota as a reliable brand. With all the recent recalls and mixed reviews, I’m starting to wonder if this was the right decision.

One concern is how the recalls might affect the car’s resale value. is it something Toyota can recover from with proper fixes?

I’ve also read that Toyota isn’t fully committed to EVs yet, which makes me worry if the bZ4X was rushed to market. Some reviews have been really harsh, and while complaints like the name seem trivial, it’s hard to tell if they’re missing something deeper.

Finally, I’m curious about the FWD version’s charging curve. Most discussions focus on the AWD model, and I haven’t found much solid info about the FWD.

Is this still a smart choice, or would waiting for another model make more sense?

From what I’ve seen, its charging curve isn’t as aggressive as some competitors, but it’s consistent. Toyota seems to have opted for a more conservative approach to preserve battery health. If you’re not planning long-distance road trips frequently, it should be fine, but if fast charging is critical for you, maybe check out more details or wait for future updates.

my hubby decided to be a science nerd and tracked his bZ4X's charging curve at an Electrify America station. He prepped the battery by driving it down to 3 miles of range and then zapped it with the AC and heater to drain it completely. The weather was pretty mild, around 60 degrees. He recorded the charge rate every minute for the first 40 minutes, then slowed down to 5-minute intervals, and finally 10-minute intervals until it was full. The car sucked up a total of 65.2kWh, and 80% of that was done by the 49.6kWh mark. Pretty neat, huh?
