Let’s talk real-world ownership of the bZ4X. I knew Toyota’s first EV would have some growing pains, but after months of driving, I’ve come across some recurring problems that I wasn’t expecting.

Infotainment system: Wireless Android Auto is hit or miss, sometimes it connects instantly, sometimes I’m restarting the car to get it working.
Thermal management: Fast charging in the cold? Expect longer-than-expected wait times. The battery just doesn’t heat itself efficiently.
Key fob & electronics: Random ‘key not detected’ errors and a 12V battery that dies too easily in certain situations.
Charging port design: Some fast charger handles don’t connect well, and I’ve already seen issues with broken plastic pieces inside.

Now, don’t get me wrong, the bZ4X is spacious, comfortable, and drives well, but Toyota really needs to step up on software and charging tech. For those sticking with the bZ4X, what workarounds or fixes have you found?

Yeah, I had some of those issues too, but not as many as you're having. The app was a total mess and super disappointing, so we mostly just used Android Auto by plugging our phones in. We could never get both our phones connected at the same time, which was really annoying since it worked fine in other cars we've had.

I usually check online forums to see if anyone else is having the same problems. If the usual fixes don't work, I just call the dealer. I know it's a hassle, but I'm hoping Toyota will sort this stuff out eventually!

I've heard some rumblings about those issues. That infotainment system sounds frustrating wireless Android Auto being so flaky is a pain. And the cold weather charging problems? Yikes. It's like the battery gets grumpy in the cold. The key fob thing is weird too, and that charging port design sounds like a recipe for trouble.

It's good to hear you still like the car overall spacious and comfy is definitely a plus. Hopefully, Toyota will get their act together and fix some of these bugs. For anyone else driving a bZ4X, have you found any clever workarounds or fixes for these problems?

The bZ4X...well, the range and charging aren't great compared to other EVs in its class, and it's kind of expensive for what you get. Plus, it had that whole wheel recall thing, which wasn't a good look. And the app and software are buggy, which is annoying. Oh, and finding a place to charge it can be a pain. But hey, it's pretty efficient, surprisingly good off-road, comfortable to drive, and it's a Toyota, so you know it'll probably be reliable.
