I’ve run into a frustrating issue with my bZ4X and wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this or found a solution. For those with an early production bZ4X, you might already know about the VIN confusion where it sometimes comes up as a Subaru. Toyota issued a campaign (22TC09) to clarify this for insurance companies, states, and anyone else needing verification.
Here’s where the problem starts: there’s a QR code sticker inside the driver’s door that’s supposed to take you to a Toyota webpage where you can download a letter confirming it’s a Toyota, not a Subaru. But when I scan the QR code, it just redirects me to Toyota’s Maintenance Plan page. There’s no sign of the campaign letter or any way to verify the VIN issue.
I contacted Toyota about this over a month ago, but nothing’s been fixed yet. Is anyone else having this problem? Can you get the QR code to work properly? It used to take you to a page where you could scroll down and find the PDF, but now it’s completely useless.
To add to the comedy, when I took my bZ4X to the dealership a while back, they scanned the VIN (not the QR code) and it came up as a Subaru. Even their Parts department thought I’d brought the car to the wrong place! They had no idea about the VIN confusion and ended up calling Toyota for clarification. The QR code wouldn’t have helped them either since it’s broken! This VIN mix-up is annoying enough without the QR code issue making it worse!
