I just had my first experience with cold weather charging on my Toyota bZ4X, and wow, it really slows things down! I’ve been using EVgo twice a week while waiting to install a 220V Level 2 charger at home.
During my recent charge, I saw speeds ranging from 17-34 kW, which wasn’t unbearable, but definitely slower than the 145 kW I’ve hit on warmer days. I know cold affects charging but this was still a bit surprising.
Does preconditioning the battery help with charging speeds in cold weather?
How do charging costs compare between Level 1 and Level 2 at home?
Any other tips for optimizing charging in colder temps?
I'm just trying to figure out the best way to manage winter charging.
