Is Toyota's quality as good as it was in the 1980s? Are their vehicles still as reliable?

Toyota still makes reliable cars, but quality alone isn’t enough if they’re not competitive. That’s part of why the BZ4X isn’t selling, they need to keep up with the market.

Toyota was the reliability king back in the '80s, and that's why they're still popular. But things are different now. They still make good cars, but they're not necessarily the best anymore. They've had some issues, like everyone else, and cars are just more complicated these days. Lots of people still love their Toyotas, but others have had problems. Basically, they're probably still reliable, but not as unquestionably amazing as they used to be. You gotta do your research on specific models.

Have you checked out Consumer Reports? They did a review of Toyota, and last I saw, they were still in the top three. It might be worth a look! Let me know what you think if you check it out – I'm curious to hear your take!
