Hi, I’ve been using eco mode on my Toyota bZ4X and am curious about what systems it actually affects. I haven’t noticed any significant difference in energy consumption or performance. Can anyone explain what changes when eco mode is activated? Thanks

You won't notice any difference, haha! Maybe only on the throttle response. I have never understood this "eco mode". It is more like "no-changes-mode".

AFAIK, ECO mode is supposed to save gas, but the how is the interesting part. It doesn't actually change the engine's horsepower, but it does remap the accelerator pedal. So basically, it makes the pedal less sensitive, so you don't use as much fuel for the same amount of pedal press. Think of it like a gentler throttle response. This can be great in stop-and-go traffic when you don't need that instant acceleration. ECO mode also often tweaks the AC and other accessories to minimize power draw and boost fuel economy even further.

Thanks for the insight, slower throttle response and optimizing accessories would help conserve energy. I guess I need to pay more attention to those adjustments.

It primarily softens the accelerator response making it harder to waste energy by flooring it. It also adjusts the climate control to use less power. You probably won't notice a huge change in performance as it;s more about moderating your inputs than drastically reducing power. How you drive in eco mode matters most. If you're still driving aggressively it won't do much. It's meant to encourage a smoother more efficient driving technique.

That makes sense, I was expecting a more noticeable impact, but it’s really about driving habits. I’ll try adjusting my technique and see. Thanks
