Quick question: is there any way to completely turn off the head unit screen in the bZ4X? My old car had a “screen off” button, which was great for times when you just wanted to drive without all the glowing maps or menus distracting you.

I get that the screen is helpful, but sometimes I don’t want to look at it, or burn through range for features I’m not using. It seems like a lot of energy goes into running the 3D maps, live traffic updates, and all that. We’re all told to be mindful of power use, but there’s no obvious way to save a bit here by turning off the display.

If anyone knows how to do this, or if it’s even possible, please share! And if not, maybe we can suggest this as an update to Toyota. It seems like a small but useful improvement they could add in the future.

Sadly, I don’t think there’s a full-off mode for the bZ4X screen right now. the bZ4X doesn’t currently allow you to completely turn off the head unit screen. That said, you can minimize distractions by dimming it or disabling features like live traffic updates and 3D maps in the settings. These features do use some power, though their overall impact on range is likely small. Still, a full screen-off option would be a great addition, definitely worth sending feedback to Toyota for consideration in a future update.

I totally understand the need for a “screen off” option! I had a similar situation with my car, and I found that while you can’t completely turn off the screen, lowering the brightness helps reduce energy use. It’s not as ideal as a complete shutdown, but it’s something.
